Microsoft Surface Go 3 - 10.5" Touchscreen - Intel Pentium Gold - 4GB Memory - 64GB eMMC - Device Only - Platinum (Latest Model)

Microsoft has finally announced its Surface Go 3 tablet. Once again, it comes in with a 10.5 inch screen, and it’s the little sibling to the Surface Pro series. It’s also the entry-level point to the Surface lineup, starting at $399.99.

There’s not a whole lot that’s new this year, partly because the second-generation model saw some visual changes, such as a larger screen. The Surface Go 3 is mainly a spec bump.

When is the Surface Go 3 release date?

The Microsoft Surface Go 3 will be available on October 5th, 2021, as is most of the rest of what the company just announced. The hardware is meant to coincide with the launch of Windows 11.Indeed, this launch has been all about hero hardware to show off the new OS. While the Surface Go 3 isn’t exactly a hero product, it shows there’s something for everyone.

Unfortunately, the 4G LTE model is coming later, specifically in December. Microsoft used to do this a lot, delaying the 4G LTE model, and never really said why.

What is the price of the Surface Go 3?

The Surface Go 3 starts at $399, just like its predecessor did. It goes up from there, and frankly, the $399 model isn’t the one you’ll want. That’s the one that’s got a Pentium Gold 6500Y, 4GB RAM, and 64GB eMMC storage. At the very least, you’ll want to take the next step up, which offers 8GB RAM and a 128GB SSD for $150 more. Indeed, not only do you get double the RAM and storage, but you get faster storage. The next step up from there is the Core i3 model with the same RAM and storage, and that’s an additional $80 at $629. Finally, 4G LTE connectivity comes in at a $100 premium.

One thing I didn’t mention is there’s now a base model that comes with 4G LTE. It’s $100 more than the Wi-Fi-only base model.

Newer processors

The new Surface Go 3 is all about a spec bump. Instead of a Pentium Gold 4425Y and an eighth-gen Core m3, the new model comes with a Pentium Gold 6500Y and a Core i3-10100Y. Although to be clear, the change from Core m3 to Core i3 is a rebrand; not an improvement. The Surface Go 3 did appear on Geekbench last month, and it shows the new CPUs should be a significant improvement. In fact, the Pentium Gold should be the bigger improvement, and the leaked benchmarks show a score of 3,197 for single-core and 5,643 for multi-core. We’ll have to wait and do our own testing though, of course.

Where can I buy the Surface Go 3?

Here in the U.S., you can buy the Surface Go 3 at the usual places, such as the Microsoft Store, Amazon, Best Buy, and more.
